The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Poor Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer noted that the team is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the entire message from Ismailer's memo:
Team—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was informative. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our players.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having devoted the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in receiving him next week. We are all eager to keep observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
The President

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Challenge the competition with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that evolve every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and hope your group can secure victory? The decision is up to you."
The game has not yet received an confirmed release date or platforms, but fans can look forward to additional details as creation progresses.
